ARRIVAL ON THE COSTA DA MORTE
Arrive at Santiago de Compostela Airport and transfer to Muxía on the Costa da Morte. Settle into A Lolo Hotel, and prepare for the two coastal stages that follow.
MONDAY 28 JUNE • MUXÍA TO TOURIÑÁN LIGHTHOUSE
LOURIDO, MOUNT CACHELMO, CUÑO & TOURIÑÁN. Approx. 20 km • 5–6 hours • Camiño dos Faros • Muxía
Walk the first part of the coastal journey towards Fisterra. From Lourido Beach, the trail reaches Coido da Agra and climbs steeply to Mount Cachelmo, where views open north to Muxía and south to Cape Vilán, Punta Buitra, and the distant lighthouse at Touriñán. The route continues over repeated climbs and descents, across sandy beaches and along narrow tracks through ferns and gorse. There is time for breaks and a picnic lunch, with Cuño offering a possible stopping point. A further steep climb is followed by the descent to Moreira Beach, where there may be time to swim before the final approach to Touriñán. Return to Muxía for the night.
TUESDAY 29 JUNE • LIRES TO FARO FISTERRA
THE FINAL STAGE OF THE CAMIÑO DOS FAROS. Approx. 20 km • 5–6 hours • Approx. 90-minute transfer to Cambados.
Continue the coastal route from the Lires beach area towards Fisterra. The path crosses the western slopes of Montes do Millón and continues through the coastal terrain around O Rostro before reaching Fisterra and its lighthouse. Although the walk stays close to sea level, gradients to clifftops, descents to beaches, and narrow paths through Atlantic vegetation make for another challenging day. After the route, transfer to Cambados for accommodation at the Parador de Cambados.

A DAY TO DISCOVER THE RÍAS BAIXAS

THURSDAY 1 JULY • CAMPO LAMEIRO
RÍO DOS MANESES & BRONZE AGE PETROGLYPHS. Approx. 8–10 km • 5–6 hours • Approx. 40-minute outward transfer • Baiona.
Travel inland towards Campo Lameiro, near Monte Cregos. The walk begins beside a mill near the PO-231 and follows part of the PR-G 230 north along the Río dos Maneses for approximately 3.5 kilometres. From a second mill, the route turns east and then south towards the Campo Lameiro Archaeological Park. The site contains a wide range of Bronze Age rock carvings, including geometric forms, deer, other animals and hunting scenes, with motifs that may feel familiar to visitors who know Newgrange, Knowth and Dowth. Allow around 45 minutes for the interpretation centre before continuing through the park to the collection point. Transfer onward to Baiona, approximately 60 minutes, for accommodation at Talaso Atlantico.
FRIDAY 2 JULY • CÍES ISLANDS
MONTE FARO, ALTO DO PRÍNCIPE & FARO DO PEITO. Approx. 8–12 km • 5–7 hours • Ferry from Vigo • Baiona.
Take the ferry from Vigo and begin a circular route from the island port. A zigzag path climbs to the Monte Faro lighthouse, with broad views towards Portugal, Vigo, Ons Island and the rías of Pontevedra and Arousa. Descend past the campsite and cross the causeway linking Monteagudo with O Faro. Continue towards Alto do Príncipe for views over the western cliffs, or follow the shorter variation via the Jules Verne viewpoint to Faro do Peito. Return along the coastal path to the ferry port and Rodas Beach, where you can enjoy the white sand and swim before travelling back to Vigo. Return to Baiona for the night.
SATURDAY 3 JULY • MONTE SANTA TECLA
COASTAL CLIMB TO THE CELTIC-ROMAN CASTRO. Approx. 10–12 km • 6–7 hours • A Guarda and the Río Miño • Baiona.
Begin near the mouth of the Río Miño at the southern edge of Galicia, facing the Portuguese frontier. After a short coastal section, the route climbs steadily in zigzags through maritime pine, eucalyptus, gorse and heathland. The viewpoints expand across the river estuary and Atlantic coast as the trail approaches the summit of Monte Santa Trega. Here, the extensive castro preserves the remains of a Galician-Roman settlement with origins dating to the fourth century BC. Its commanding position allowed the community to watch the river, coast and surrounding territory. Return to Baiona for the final night.
SUNDAY 4 JULY • DEPARTURE
RETURN TO SANTIAGO DE COMPOSTELA
Leave Baiona for the transfer to Santiago de Compostela airport. The journey takes approximately 80 minutes and concludes the eight-day Galicia programme.
