The Cadí-Moixeró Nature Reserve is an essential destination for nature lovers and can be enjoyed from anywhere in the region. Its peaks range from 900 metres (in the lowest areas of the valleys) to the 2,648 metres of the Canal Baridana mountain.

With a surface area of over 41,000 hectares distributed between Berguedà, Alt Urgell and La Cerdanya, it includes the mountain ranges of El Cadí and Moixeró, the Pedraforca massif, and a large part of the hills of Alp and Puigllançada, creating a mountainous barrier 30 kilometres long.

This geography offers a variety of landscapes, including foothill, alpine, and subalpine areas, as well as rocky environments with characteristic rich vegetation and fauna. Given its east-west orientation, significant climatic differences exist between the two sides, particularly in rainfall. Similarly, small masses of water, such as torrents and some springs, can be found due to the calcareous structure.

The vegetation is dominated by meadows of fodder and garlic in the valleys, surrounded by fields of potatoes and beans. The forests are composed of deciduous trees, such as beech, oak, ash, and willow. Despite this, the trees that really dress these spots are Scots pine, black pine, and, in smaller numbers, fir trees.

The animals inhabiting the area are typical of the high mountain, most notably the woodpecker (the park's symbol), Tengmalm's owl and the marten. However, the lords of the heights are the ibex, with a population of more than 2,600.

This is, in fact, the protected area in Catalonia with the most significant number of inhabitants and species of flora and fauna of European interest.

In addition to the park's natural beauty, its secret heritage is a particular point of interest for tourists. The medieval walls and the porticoed square of Bagà are two perfect examples, without forgetting the Gothic church and the towers and walls of Bellver de Cerdanya. The rural architecture and the picturesqueness of the majority of the towns and villages that make up the park make visits an absolute pleasure.

Penyes Altes de Moixeró, standing at 2,276 meters, is the highest peak in the Serra del Moixeró. At its summit, the provinces of Barcelona, Lleida, and Girona meet, offering breathtaking views of the Vall del Cadí and the iconic Pedraforca massif. This fantastic route starts in the municipality of Urús de Cerdanya. The hike rewards you with extraordinary views over Cerdanya and Berguedà, especially along the ridge connecting Penyes Altes to Tosa d'Alp.

The return descent through Coll de Jou offers stunning panoramas over the Serrat de les Pedrusques, a landscape often showcased in a striking palette of ochres, greens, and reddish hues, creating a scene of remarkable beauty. Dinner & accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

Level B. HIKE TO PENYES ALTES PEAK FROM NIU LA LIGA HUT. 11 Km +400m/-400m

We leave the Niu de l'Àliga refuge following the crest of the Serra de Moixeró towards the Coll de Moixeró along the GR 150.1. We pass the Coll de Jou and head towards Penyes Altes, a popular peak not because it is the highest in the mountain range but because of its magnificent panoramic view over Berguedà and Cerdanya.
We return from the same path. Dinner & accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

DAY 19th May. Breakfast.

Level A. HIKE TO TOSSA PLANA DE LLES PEAK. 9 Km +800m/-800m

Pico de la Portelleta, also known as Tossa Plana de Lles, is 2,916 meters high, making it the highest point in Baja Cerdanya and the second-highest peak in all of Cerdanya.

As we ascend, we traverse the sunlit slopes of Cerdanya’s magnificent massif, transitioning from the subalpine zone—with its picturesque black pine forests, home to small birds like titmice, crested tits, and crossbills—to the alpine zone, characterised by open meadows and rocky terrain. In these high-altitude areas, if we’re observant, we might spot a marmot or even catch a glimpse of a golden eagle in pursuit of prey.

From the expansive summit of Tossa Plana de Lles, we’re rewarded with unbeatable views of the stunning Andorran valleys of Madriu and Perafita, which lie just below, along with sweeping vistas of the Segre Valley and countless surrounding peaks—dinner & accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

Level B. CIRCULAR TO PRAT DE CADÍ THROUGH THE PALLERS PASS. 8,5 Km +475m/-475m

Hike to the iconic Prat de Cadí, where we can admire the spectacular walls of the northern slope of the Cadí mountain range.

This circular itinerary allows us to discover the emblematic Prat de Cadí, a clearing located at the foot of the northern slope of the Cadí, at just over 1,800m altitude, from where you can enjoy an impressive panoramic view of the abrupt northern faces of the Cadí mountain range. The itinerary leaves from the pretty town of Estana, at the western end of Cerdanya, on the border with Alto Urgel, and runs through beautiful pine forests of red pine and black pine typical of the pre-Pyrenean territories of the shady slope of the Cadí mountain range, in the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park.

Transfer to Prullans—dinner & accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

DAY 20th May. Breakfast.

Level A. PUIGPEDRÓS PEAK (2,915M) FROM MALNIU HUT. 13 Km +900m/-900m

This route takes you to one of the most iconic mountains in Cerdanya, offering an extraordinary panoramic view of the entire region. The circular hike begins at the Malniu Refuge (2,130m), following the winding GR 11 trail along the southern slopes of Puigpedrós to reach the Joaquim Folch i Girona Refuge. At this point, we leave the trans-Pyrenean path behind and ascend through the Engorgs Lake basin, gaining elevation as we head towards the northwestern ridge that leads to the summit of Puigpedrós (2,915m). From the summit, we descend southeast, passing through the Molleres del Puigpedrós, then continue along the Serrat de les Perdius Blanques before reaching Malniu Lake. The final stretch takes us across gentler terrain, returning the circuit to the Malniu Refuge. Dinner & accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

Level B. THE ANES CAVE FROM PRULLANS. 12 Km +585/-585m

Circular route that reveals the hidden cave of Anes and the remote houses of Anes, Orèn and La Bastida in the Cerdaña sunny área.

Between the busy valley of La Llosa and the no less visited Valltova, the sunny side of Cerdaña hides quiet and astonishing places such as the mysterious cave of Anes and three hidden farmhouses that preserve their agricultural character: Anes - and its Romanesque church of Sant Mamet-, Orèn and la Bastida, the last two with defensive bastions. It is a small gem of a route where, in addition to debuting in the mysterious world of caving, we can also enjoy the beauty of the Anes plateau and privileged views of La Tosa, the Moixeró mountain range, the cyclopean northern wall of Cadí and the tremendous forest masses that exist at the foot of the mountains, among which are located the small towns and adjacent fields that makeup Cerdanya. Dinner & accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

The path is marked, and from the pass it is just over 150 metres to the summit. There is no technical difficulty, but we must pay attention to the people descending this slope. The summit offers a gratifying visual spectacle. Here we will be able to recognise the traces of these days of walking. You will be able to see the whole of the Cadí-Moixeró mountain range. The descent is made along the same path to l'Enforcadura and then down the path of the tartera to the Lluís Estasen refuge. Transfer to Prullens. Dinner & accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

From this lake, we continue climbing to Pla de las Someres, the highest point of the excursion. Next, we go down to the Pradell refuge. Finally, we follow a path that descends slightly to the starting point of the route in Cap de Rec, the base of the Nordic ski resort of Lles de Cerdanya. Transfer to Refugi Estasen. We leave the refuge and take the signs for the local PR C-124 path heading south, which brings us directly to the Mirador del Gresolet viewpoint. Follow the PR to Saldes, a village with all the services, where you can address any last-minute needs. We leave the PR and head east until we cross the river on a track (Molí de Cal Ferrer). We look for the path that initially crosses a ravine (Torrent de Llúria), and we enter a tiny frequented stretch, the Estrets de Llúria. The route climbs steadily up to the Coll de Llúria, a pass in the middle of pine woods that soon changes slope and takes you to a new pass: the Coll de la Bena. Without reaching the latter, continue downhill along a path between a group of houses (Cal Tasconet). After crossing the road that ends in a dead end a few metres from where we are, we continue along a marked uphill path known as the "Volta Voltrera".
There are several points where you stop to contemplate the views of Pedraforca and the valley that opens up in front of you. We pass a viewpoint set up by the Cadí Moixeró Natural Park and continue along a track that soon becomes a beautiful downhill path with endless zigzags, taking us straight to the Vents del Cadí Refuge. Here you can enjoy a good meal that Fran will undoubtedly offer you: mountain rice or some incredible macaroni with chorizo sausage. Transfer to Platja d’Aro in the Costa Brava.
