LA CERDANYA & CADÍ-MOIXERÓ NATURAL PARK

Discover one of Catalonia’s great mountain landscapes, where dramatic limestone ranges rise above forests, alpine meadows and traditional Pyrenean villages.

Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park protects approximately 41,060 hectares across Berguedà, Alt Urgell and La Cerdanya. It encompasses the Cadí and Moixeró ranges, the Pedraforca massif and parts of Tosa d’Alp and Puigllançada.

The mountains form an impressive natural barrier stretching for around 30 kilometres. Elevations range from approximately 900 metres in the valleys to 2,648 metres at Vulturó, also known as Puig de la Canal Baridana.

A REMARKABLE VARIETY OF LANDSCAPES

Foothill, subalpine, alpine and rocky environments exist side by side. Cultivated fields and mountain meadows give way to forests of beech, oak, ash and willow, followed at higher elevations by Scots pine, black pine and fir.

Streams, springs and dramatic limestone formations add further variety to this exceptional mountain landscape.

  • High-Mountain Wildlife
The park provides an important habitat for Pyrenean chamois, black woodpeckers, Tengmalm’s owls, pine martens and numerous other mountain species.
  • Rich Botanical Heritage
Its contrasting elevations and habitats support an exceptional concentration of plants and natural communities of European interest.
  • Historic Villages
Discover Bagà’s medieval walls and porticoed square, Bellver de Cerdanya’s historic centre and the traditional rural architecture found throughout the region.

WALKING GRADES

Whenever group numbers and guide availability permit, each walking day offers a choice of Grade A, Grade B and Grade C routes.

  • Grade A
The most demanding option, involving greater distance, ascent or exposure on mountain terrain.
  • Grade B
A strong intermediate walk offering rewarding mountain scenery with a more moderate distance and ascent.
  • Grade C
A shorter and more moderate route, often including additional scenic, historic or cultural interest.

Important: We must receive accurate information about each participant’s recent walking experience, fitness and relevant medical conditions before travel. This helps our guides select the safest and most enjoyable route for every walker.

Penyes Altes de Moixeró, standing at 2,276 metres, is the highest peak in the Serra del Moixeró. At its summit, the provinces of Barcelona, Lleida, and Girona meet, offering breathtaking views of the Vall del Cadí and the iconic Pedraforca massif. This fantastic route starts in Urús de Cerdanya. The hike rewards you with extraordinary views over Cerdanya and Berguedà, especially along the ridge connecting Penyes Altes to Tosa d'Alp. LEVEL B · PENYES ALTES & MOIXERÓ RIDGE FROM NIU DE L’ÀLIGA · 14 KM · +600M/-600M

Starting at the Niu de l’àliga mountain refuge, we follow the high ridge of the Moixeró range along GR 150.1. The trail passes Coll de Jou and continues towards the summit of Penyes Altes, one of the finest viewpoints in the eastern Pyrenees. After enjoying the views from Penyes Altes, we continue westwards along the ridge towards the open mountain landscapes of the Moixeró. The route provides superb panoramas over Cerdanya, Berguedà, the Cadí range and Pedraforca. We return to Niu de l’àliga along the ridge, with several opportunities to shorten the walk if the weather requires it. Dinner and accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

LEVEL C · PENYES ALTES FROM NIU DE L’ÀLIGA · 11 KM · +400M/-400M

We leave the Niu de l’Àliga refuge and follow the panoramic GR 150.1 along the crest of the Moixeró range. The route passes Coll de Jou before continuing towards Penyes Altes. Although this is a high-mountain walk, most of the route follows a broad and clearly defined ridge. Penyes Altes offers outstanding views over the Cerdanya valley, Berguedà, Pedraforca and the surrounding Pyrenean peaks. After resting at the summit, we return to Niu de l’àliga along the same trail. Dinner and accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

Day 3. TOSSA PLANA DE LLES & THE CADÍ VIEWPOINTS

LEVEL A · TOSSA PLANA DE LLES · 11 KM · +800M/-800M

Pico de la Portelleta, also known as Tossa Plana de Lles, rises to 2,916 metres, making it the highest point in Baja Cerdanya and the second-highest peak in all of Cerdanya. As we ascend, we traverse the sunlit slopes of Cerdanya’s magnificent massif, moving from the subalpine zone—with its picturesque black pine forests, home to small birds such as titmice, crested tits, and crossbills—to the alpine zone, characterised by open meadows and rocky terrain. In these high-altitude areas, if we’re observant, we might spot a marmot or even catch a glimpse of a golden eagle hunting. From the expansive summit of Tossa Plana de Lles, we’re rewarded with unbeatable views of the stunning Andorran valleys of Madriu and Perafita. Dinner & accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

LEVEL B · PRAT DE CADÍ & PLA DE L’ÀLIGA · 13 KM · +600M/-600M

Starting in the picturesque village of Estana, we walk towards Coll de Pallers before entering the beautiful Scots and black pine forests of the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park. The route climbs steadily to Prat de Cadí, a magnificent alpine meadow beneath the Cadí range's impressive northern walls. From this viewpoint, we can admire the cliffs, gullies, and high summits that form one of Cerdanya's most dramatic mountain landscapes. On the return journey, we follow a mix of forest paths and local trails to the Pla de l’àliga viewpoints. These viewpoints offer a different perspective over the Cadí range, the Cerdanya valley and the surrounding Pyrenean peaks. We complete the circular route in Estana. Dinner and accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

LEVEL C · PLA DE L’ÀLIGA VIEWPOINTS FROM ESTANA · 10.5 KM · +425M/-425M

Starting in Estana, we walk through the village and continue towards Coll de Pallers. From here, a well-defined mountain trail climbs gradually through beautiful Scots and black pine forests. Our destination is Prat de Cadí, an open meadow situated at approximately 1,820 metres beneath the spectacular northern wall of the Cadí range. We'll have time to enjoy the scenery and identify some of the principal gullies and summits before beginning the descent. The return follows a gentle forest variation before rejoining the main path to Estana. Dinner and accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

Day 4. PUIGPEDRÓS, ANES CAVE & MALNIU LAKE

LEVEL A · PUIGPEDRÓS (2,915M) FROM MALNIU HUT · 13 KM · +900M/-900M

This route takes you to one of Cerdanya’s most iconic mountains, offering an extraordinary panoramic view of the entire region. The circular hike begins at the Malniu Refuge (2,130m), following the winding GR 11 trail along the southern slopes of Puigpedrós to reach the Joaquim Folch i Girona Refuge. From there, we leave the trans-Pyrenean path behind and ascend through the Engorgs Lake basin, gaining elevation as we head toward the northwestern ridge leading to the summit of Puigpedrós (2,915m). From the summit, we descend southeast, pass through the Molleres del Puigpedrós, and continue along the Serrat de les Perdius Blanques before reaching Malniu Lake. The final stretch takes us across gentler terrain, returning the circuit to the Malniu Refuge. Dinner & accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

LEVEL B · ANES CAVE FROM PRULLANS · 12 KM · +585M/-585M

Circular route revealing the hidden cave of Anes and the remote houses of Anes, Orèn, and La Bastida in Cerdanya's sunny area. Between the busy valley of La Llosa and the less-visited Valltova, the sunny side of Cerdanya hides quiet and astonishing places such as the mysterious cave of Anes and three hidden farmhouses that preserve their agricultural character: Anes - and its Romanesque church of Sant Mamet-, Orèn and La Bastida, the last two with defensive bastions. It is a small gem of a route where, in addition to debuting in the mysterious world of caving, we can also enjoy the beauty of the Anes plateau and privileged views of La Tosa, the Moixeró mountain range, the cyclopean northern wall of Cadí and the tremendous forest masses that exist at the foot of the mountains, among which are located the small towns and adjacent fields that make up Cerdanya. Dinner & accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

LEVEL C · MALNIU LAKE & BLACK PINE FORESTS · 10.5 KM · +450M/-450M

Starting at Malniu Refuge, we follow a mountain trail through black pine forest and a landscape characterised by granite rocks and alpine meadows. Our first objective is Malniu Lake, one of Cerdanya's most attractive glacial lakes. After enjoying the lake and its mountain surroundings, we continue through the forest towards Estany Sec and the open pastures surrounding the refuge. A longer forest circuit lets us explore the lower slopes beneath Puigpedrós without entering the steeper terrain near the summit. The walk offers extensive views towards the Cadí and Moixeró ranges before returning to Malniu Refuge. Dinner and accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

Explore the valley by electric bike, following quiet country roads and trails between traditional villages, farmland and beautiful mountain scenery. The route can be adapted to suit the group’s fitness and experience.

La Seu d’Urgell

Visit the historic centre and Romanesque cathedral of La Seu d’Urgell. For more adventure, try rafting or kayaking at the Olympic white-water park.

Andorra day trip

Enjoy a day trip to the Principality of Andorra, a small mountain country situated in the heart of the Pyrenees. The journey from Prullans to Andorra la Vella covers about 48 kilometres and usually takes about one hour each way, depending on traffic and border conditions. The visit may include Andorra la Vella's historic centre, the Casa de la Vall, and its traditional streets and squares. You will also have free time to explore Avinguda Meritxell, enjoy the shops and cafés, or walk to the neighbouring town of Escaldes-Engordany. Depending on the group’s interests and the time available, the excursion may also include a scenic viewpoint, a Romanesque church or a short stop in one of Andorra’s mountain villages.

The path is marked, and from the pass it is just over 150 metres to the summit. There is no technical difficulty, but we must pay attention to the people descending this slope. The summit offers a rewarding view. Here, you can recognise the traces of these days of walking. You can see the whole Cadí-Moixeró mountain range. Descend along the same path to l'Enforcadura, then take the tartera to the Lluís Estasen refuge. Transfer to Prullans. Dinner & accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

Starting in Gósol, we follow traditional paths through meadows and pine forest towards Font Terrers. The route continues to El Collell, a natural pass separating the Pedraforca massif from the Cadí range. From El Collell, we follow a broad mountain track beneath Pedraforca's spectacular northern face. This section offers constantly changing views of the mountain without entering the steep, technical terrain leading to its summit. We continue towards Jaça dels Prats and the Lluís Estasen Refuge, situated in a beautiful forest clearing below the mountain. The route finishes near the refuge, where transport will meet the group for the return journey to Prullans. Dinner and accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

LEVEL C · FONT TERRERS & TORRENTSENTA FROM GÓSOL · 10.5 KM · +450M/-450M

This circular walk starts in the historic mountain village of Gósol. We follow country paths through traditional farmland and meadows before entering the pine forests surrounding Font Terrers. The route gradually climbs to Coll de Font Terrers, where you'll get excellent views of the Cadí range, Pedraforca, and the Gósol valley. We return by a different route through the Torrentsenta area, following forest tracks, streams, and open meadows back to Gósol. After the walk, you’ll have time to explore the village, learn about its connection with Pablo Picasso and, if time permits, visit the medieval castle ruins. Dinner and accommodation at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

Day 7. PEDRAFORCA & THE LLOSA VALLEY

LEVEL A · LLUÍS ESTASEN TO VENTS DEL CADÍ · 16.3 KM · +862M/-1,610M

Transfer to Refugi Estasen. Leave the refuge and follow signs to PR C-124 south to Mirador del Gresolet. Continue to Saldes for last-minute needs. From the PR, head east, cross the Molí de Cal Ferrer track, then find the ravine-crossing path through Estrets de Llúria, climb to Coll de Llúria, and continue to Coll de la Bena. Descend past Cal Tasconet, cross a dead-end road, and follow the "Volta Voltrera' uphill trail. Stop at viewpoints of Pedraforca and the valley, including a set by Cadí Moixeró Park. Proceed along a zigzag downhill to Vents del Cadí Refuge, where Fran offers mountain rice or macaroni with chorizo. Dinner and stay at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

LEVEL B · THE LLOSA VALLEY · 13 KM · +535M/-535M

Today, we walk through the long, picturesque Llosa Valley in Cerdanya, in northwestern Cerdanya. The route begins in Cal Jan de la Llosa, near Viliella, passes the old castle of La Llosa, enters the lush black-pine forests typical of the Pyrenean subalpine forest, and reaches the head of the valley, defined by a vast glacial amphitheatre. Return along the same path: the long-distance trail GR 107, or Camí dels Bons Homes. Transfer to Prullans. Dinner and stay at Cerdanya Ecoresort.

LEVEL C · LOWER LLOSA VALLEY · 11 KM · +425M/-425M

Starting at Cal Jan de la Llosa, we follow the historic Camí dels Bons Homes into the lower part of this beautiful glacial valley. The route passes traditional farmland, dry-stone walls and the remains of Llosa Castle before entering a peaceful black pine forest. We continue beside the river towards the mountain meadows and traditional shelters of the middle valley. After reaching the selected turnaround point near the open meadows of Prat Xuixirà, we return to Cal Jan along the same trail.
