Sri Lanka is a wonderful island country SE of the Indian sub-continent with an ancient history & culture. To get the best possible trekking experience while also enjoying the diversity, we concentrate the tour in a region that gives us the most immersive experience. Rural road networks are challenging. Distances to walking routes may be short but take longer than you're used to back home. With that in mind, and given the high standard of accommodations included in the program, we have incorporated feedback from our consultations & present the best possible routes to reduce excessive travel time.
The program begins with arrival in Colombo on day one. The private bus transfer to Matale takes 3 hours; Matale is a small city of 36k, where we stay for 3 nights in an eco forest lodge.
We will do our first walk from there to the local mountains up to Manigala Rock.
On day 3, we have included the option of an elephant safari to Minneriya National Park.
On day 4, we travel to Kandy and stay for 4 nights in our hotel & spa nestled in the foothills of the Hanthana mountain range.
From here, we will do 3 walks to experience the variety this region offers, including Hunnasgiriya, Hanthana & Alagalla. We have scheduled a free day on day 5.
On that day, you can visit nearby Kandy, a city of 125k, home to the sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic & the shrine of the relic of Lord Buddha.
Then we head to Digana, where we spend 2 nights at another eco resort overlooking Victoria Reservoir.
Here we do two lovely hikes: Kondagala & the challenging High Knuckles mountains of the Central Highlands.
The next two days we are in Shady Hills enjoying the tranquil solitude of this UNESCO World Heritage area, exploring Hunnaskiriya, its beautiful array of waterfalls & hiking Kehelpathdoruwa.
The final 2 nights/days will be focused on the coast. We stay 300m from the beach in a boutique hotel in Negombo, a coastal city of 145k, concluding our tour there having completed 9 great treks, staying in lovely 3 & 4 star hotels/lodges with 10 days half board & 3 free days of “me-time” with options of safaris, tuk-tuk tours & cultural visits.
